Android 4.4 KitKat was unveiled almost two weeks ago, but the actual update hasn’t started rolling out for any Nexus device yet (let alone any non-Nexus device). But that will be changing in a few hours today, as Google has announced that the Android 4.4 update will begin streaming down to the Nexus 10. There’s no mention of the exact time the rollout will commence, but owing to an update’s phased nature, it will likely be a couple of days before every Nexus 10 user gets the notification on his/her device.
Android 4.4 KitKat is one of the most major upgrades to Android, despite not bringing too many user-facing features. There’s faster performance and reduced memory usage, transparent navigation and status bars on the homescreen (though this might be removed in the Android 4.4.1 update), inbuilt support for third-party messaging apps, updated versions of Google apps, improved photo editor, built-in NFC payments support, and more.
