India is one of the markets where Samsung sells the Exynos variant of its flagship since the Galaxy S4, and that trend continued with the Galaxy Note 3 when it was launched back in late September in the world’s second most populous country. However, it seems Samsung retailers are using the Snapdragon variant to show off the device to consumers, something the folks over at BGR found out after checking it out in multiple cities.
It’s a surprising revelation, and it also means that consumers aren’t exactly getting what they are being demoed when they head to a retailer to buy Samsung’s latest phablet. The Exynos variant doesn’t exactly have any major differences from the Snapdragon variant, other than not supporting 4k video recording and having a maximum clock frequency of 1.9GHz (and, well, more processor cores), so most folks won’t really care about which variant they’re getting, but it’s still a strange thing to do in our opinion and quite misleading.
Our review of the Galaxy Note 3 was done on the Snapdragon variant, but for those wondering, the Exynos variant works just as well, something I can attest to after using it over the past week. But if you’re at your local mobile store in India and see a retailer talking about 4k video recording to an unaware prospective buyer, well, be sure to intervene.
